.beuys produced around 12,000 editions of his multiple “intuition”. each edition was sold for 8 deutsche marks by Edition VIC-Versand. the total primary value exchanged for all 12,000 editions of “intuition” was 96,000 DM (12,000×8), which defines the exchange value, the sale price, of .intiution1.0_ by .-_-.

.beuys produced multiples as a vehicle of communicating his ideas to a wider audience. even though “intuition” is the multiple by beuys with the largest edition, each edition became a “valuable” work of art with secondary market prices in the art market and the culture industry. coming across an edition of “intuition” or even a photo is very rare since even images of “intuition” are also copyrighted and using them requires permission and paying a fee through licensing_

Artists Rights Society (ARS) has been contacted to license the image of “Intuition” for use in the website http://httpdot.net/.-_-./ . the official answer reads:

“Artists Rights Society (ARS) is the exclusive US representative of VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn. As such, ARS has the right to license the use of works by Joseph Beuys to clients based in the United States. Thank you for your request of October 29, 2010 for the use of “Intuition” by Joseph Beuys. We regret to inform you that permission may not be granted for the use detailed in your email…”

.the painting/sculpture .intuition1.0: a unique work of art with an absolute exchange value of 96,000 deutsche marks_ is a unique representation of a digital multiple (digitiple) work of art by .-_-. : .intuition2.1_ , which is is a .png image of how .intuition2.0_ looks when rendered by firefox 3.6.12 in gnu/linux with freesans font (size 14)_ .intuition2.0_ is an html code digitple which commands the web browser to display the image called “intution.jpg” , which is copyrighted and permission to be served on the httpdot.net server has not been granted by ARS. since the image that the html code calls is not found on the server, then the html code commands the web browser to display the alt attribute text instead. this text is also the text that reads on the .intuition1.0_:

.deutsche bundesbank, which used to state to have a free “exchange” euro-dm policiy for unlimited time, has been contacted on july 2010 to buy 96,000 DM from the fixed rate they declare; in exchange of EUR 49,084 . the official answers from the bank stated that

“…the Deutsche Bundesbank is not authorised to issue Deutsche Mark cash anymore… an “exchange” of Euro against DM is not possible, as this is an issue. Furthermore, please be informed that all DM banknotes and coins brought to our branches [are] sorted, collected and destroyed immediately. You can obtain DM coins or banknotes at special collector shops.”_

the direct link for the info at deutsche bundesbank website for the info above (http://www.bundesbank.de/Redaktion/EN/Standardartikel/Core_business_areas/Cash_management/dm_banknotes_coins_exchange.html) is unavailable as of september 2013 (last record for that page at the wayback machine is for august 29, 2012) but the page is available in this link ( http://www.bundesbank.de/Redaktion/EN/Standardartikel/Core_business_areas/Cash_management/free_exchange_dm_euro.html ) (the first record at the wayback machine is for february 3, 2013) with the following different wording where “Free exchange DM-euro” has been replaced with “Exchanging DM for euro”, which means not “exchange” but “redeem”:

“Exchanging DM for euro

You can exchange unlimited amounts of DM banknotes and coins for euro indefinitely and free of charge at all Deutsche Bundesbank branches.”

.in such a situation, .intuition1.0: a unique work of art with an absolute exchange value of 96,000 deutsche marks_ cannot be exchanged for money but only for other “special collectibles”. the only way to “buy” the work .intuition1.0_ is to “buy”-exchange for money-special collectibles at first place as the primary exchange and then to exchange these “special collectibles” for .intuition1.0_ as the secondary exchange_ .intuition1.0_ is the work of art with an absolute exchange value in the service of capitalist economics_
