.intuitions (after joseph beuys)_ is a series of works by .-_-. speculating on the artistic ideas of joseph beuys in the age of information technologies and particularly on his multiple “intuition”. whereas “intuition” by beuys is a multiple as an object, .intuitions_ by .-_-. are digitiples as information, except for .intuition1.0 : a unique work of art with an absolute exchange value of 96,000 deutsche marks_ , which is the only work of art by .-_-. that is subject to capitalist economics and relations as an object. on the contrary, .intuition3.0 : is a totally dematerialized, zero-byte work of art_ as a digitiple in the age of information technologies, speculating on the debates of “the dematerialization of work of art” in the context of conceptual art_ .joseph beuys has chosen to produce multiples, works of art with multiple editions instead of works of art as unique objects, as a vehicle of communicating his ideas to a wider audience. for beuys, whoever has a multiple from him would continue to be in communication with him through the vehicle quality of that multiple, as long as they encounter that multiple_ .”intuition”, a wooden box with simple pencil inscriptions on it, is the multiple by beuys with the largest edition, around 12,000, each of which was initially sold for 8 deutche marks by edition vice-versand, remscheid, germany. for beuys, “intuition” was supposed to be an item of daily use to be filled with intuition and enabling the communication between beuys and his audience_ .however coming across someone using it as a box on their desktop seems unexpected since each edition of “intuition” became a “valuable” work of art within the context of art market and culture industry with their high secondary market prices. even the images of “intuition” are copyrighted and using them requires licensing_ .although many artists like beuys desired to reach and communicate with a wider audience and to articulate an alternative position in the art market by producing multiples, most of their works eventually became subject to commodification with the intermediation of culture industry. the initial concept of the multiples that challenged the uniqueness of an artwork is being utilized as a price differentiation marketing tool by culture industry demoting the multiples to “affordable artworks” that would function as a good investment considering their possible high future secondary exchange values. just like any other material thing, the materiality of the multiples which makes them subject to scarcity and to capitalist mode of production is the main reason why they are subject to commodification in the capitalist economics_
